Many people have contacted me about the pledge for pubs and the CAMRA campaign.
The Liberal Democrats have consistently championed the importance of community pubs.
It was Liberal Democrat MP Greg Mullholland who fought for legislation to allow pub landlords to free themselves from unfair pricing rules by big pub chains, and to enable pubs to be protected in local areas by being listed as assets of community value.
During our time in Government, the Liberal Democrats ensured that the Beer Duty Escalator was stopped and cut the beer duty each year for 3 consecutive years. These measures supported the growth of Britain’s breweries.
That is why I am proud to support CAMRA’s campaign and your three pledges, and commit to supporting community pubs.
